The remarkable , climate and awesome location of Bakuriani atracts as many visitors un summer as it does in winter. Coniferous forests, natural mineral waters, cozy guest-houses, little cafes , narrow streets with people selling honey and cone jam , the lovely "cuckoo" train and the fresh mountin air which is so healthy, for lungs in particular. The fir-grove is a wonderful asylum to escape the summer heat during the blossoming of the pine-trees,From May , it lasts until August and is a very special period for people with lung and bronchial problems.

Bakuriani is located 180 km from Tbilisi in the Borjomi gorge, 1700 meters above sea level. It is only 30 km from Borjomi to Bakuriani and on your way there you have a brilliant chance to catch a glimpse of some truly magnificent views.

The Bakuriani resort became famous in the 1930s for its children’s sanatorium and skiing infrastructure. There is also a botanical garden founded with a collection of Alpen flora.

The special highlight of Bakuriani is the narrow gauge railway Borjomi-Bakuriani “Cuckoo Train” constructed in 1898-1901. It is an impressive trip to take as the train weaves its way through the mountains. A special “Porter” type steam-engine was first brought from England to pull the carriages, though since then this has been replaced with a motor engine.

Bakuriani, and Borjomi gorge in general, are well-loved places for extreme sports fans of paraplane flying, rafting, and 4×4 off-roading. Here, you can also enjoy hunting and fishing (there is a very nice trout zone at Tabatskuri and Gujaretistskali).

As soon as the summer season kicks off, all ropeways of Didveli Mountain start to function and there are 5 well-organized and safe cycling routes with different categories of difficulty. The 6-km route starts at the upper station of Didveli.

If you decide to spend your summer holidays in Bakuriani, there are a number of hotels and guest-houses, and it is also possible to rent a flat or cottage. Most hotels serve delicious food and have a cozy atmosphere. Prices in guest-houses are cheaper in summer than in winter.

There are various remarkable sites and any hotel administration can help you in planning your trips to Timotesubani Monastery complex (built in the X century), Tabatskuri Lake, the natural mineral waters in Mitarbi, the hot springs in Tsikhisjvari, or a hike up to Kokhtagora (2,155 m) and from where, in clear weather, it is possible to see the top of the Caucasian mountains.
