THE EKO AND VINDA FOLIO is a musical project created in 2012 in Tbilisi. A duo of vocals (Erekle Deisadze) and guitar (Temo Ezugbaia), it is not the only project of the two musicians as Deisadze is also a solo artist and Ezugbaia is a guitar player for a Georgian electro-pop band Kung Fu Junkie. A like-minded vision for contemporary music lead to the current collaboration which mainly focuses on melodic post-punk, electro-pop and the influence of 90s MTV hits from childhood The first and foremost aim of the project is to deliver important messages to the masses and as such the song lyrics are important and written only in Georgian. Good news came when Eko and Vinda Folio joined the Talitres roster in late 2016.
A FEW WORDS ABOUT THE EKO & VINDA FOLIO PROJECT, HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE IDEA?
First came a song and then the Eko & Vinda Folio project After having worked together on ‘Sistema unda daingres’ (the system should be destroyed) in 2012, we found it really comfortable and easy to work together and after a successful collaboration, naturally we were motivated to do more together. We continued our collaboration and began experimenting in a new genre. In addition, music-lovers seemed to like our fi rst musical piece and a number of the lyrics appeared on walls in the street- so we knew we were on the right track.
HOW DO YOU FIND WORKING TOGETHER?
We both have other work with other interesting musicians and have created really good songs with them, but our project turned out really extraordinary for us, as we are completely open musically. Our vision and taste are similar in many ways which helps us in ‘silent communication’. In addition, apart from music we have a similar outlook on many basic issues, including political, religious and social events which, in our opinion, are too oppressive on people. Romanticism is also very important for us- without it, all wars are lost. <3
HOW DID YOU GET IN TOUCH WITH TALITRES ROSTER?
EKO: One of my favorite bands Motorama came here several years ago and I met Vlad Parshin, the frontman of the group; we stayed in touch and he really liked our project and decided to introduce us to Talitre (French Label) which cooperates with a number of famous bands, including Motorama itself, The National, Destroyer and The Walkmen. The label said they wanted to work with us and as a result, our vinyl with two songs ‘Shen Anateb’ (You are shining) and ‘Agurit Khelshi’ (With a brick in hand) was released. Actually, in private conversations, much is said about the beauty and interesting sound of the Georgian language, which makes us doubly happy.
WHAT’S AHEAD FOR YOU? DO YOU PLAN SOMETHING NEW AND INTERESTING IN FUTURE?
We don’t want to limit our project only to music and hope to try it in other forms. Let’s see how it goes.
ANY IDEAS ABOUT RELEASING AN ALBUM?
We’re working very actively on an album right now and are really motivated to fi nish it in 2017. Some of our songs are ready and we already love them and can’t wait to share them with others.
